The book is an expansion of the Hersch Lauterpacht Lectures, delivered before the Faculty of Law of the University of Cambridge on 3 and 5 February 1969 on the occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the ILO, in memory of the late Sir Hersch Lauterpacht, Whewell Professor of International Law at. Cambridge and Judge of the International Court of Justice, who held that the practice of international law is no mere professional skill but a moral responsibility and sought in the law the moral progress of mankind.
