Broadcasting in Asia and the Pacific: A Continental Survey of Radio and Television
Asia and the Pacific region stretches out from Turkey in the West to the middle of the Pacific in the East and covers two-thirds of the world’s population. These millions of people differ in their cultural backgrounds and the languages they speak. This diversity goes still further to urban and rural differences within a country. However, radio provides some common links. It is the main mass medium in most of the countries in the region and is generally owned by the poor and the rich alike – the difference being that the poor may own a small transistor radio while the rich more sophisticated steorophonic piece of equipment.
