Citizens, Elites, and the Legitimacof Global Governance
Citizens, Elites, and the Legitimacy of Global Governance is the fruit of six years
of collaboration in the Legitimacy in Global Governance (LegGov) research program.
Coming from different subfields of the social sciences (comparative politics,
European studies, global studies, international relations, and political sociology),
we authors were brought together by an ambition to better understand the patterns
and sources of legitimacy in global governance. In particular, we were curious
about whether citizens and elites differ in their legitimacy beliefs toward global
governance, and what could explain any such gaps. This aspiration led to an ambitious
data collection project, involving uniquely coordinated surveys of citizen
and elite opinion toward multiple international organizations in a diverse set of
countries around the world
